Autism, Toxins, and the Truth We Avoid–Part 1

by | Apr 25, 2025 | Autism and Toxins, Autism, CEASE Therapy, HDT, Homeopathic Detox Therapy

Since RFK Jr.’s recent comments on Autism during his press conference, the internet has exploded with people defending their children who have Autism. Or perhaps, defending themselves, because they feel they do make a contribution to society and RFK Jr.  was suggesting they never will.  Regardless of what people are talking about, this series of blog posts present a few of my thoughts on Autism as a response to all the recent defensiveness and questioning and calling out RFK Jr. for spewing hatred while talking about autism and toxins. Click Here to Read Part 2.

The author with RFK Jr in 2019.

RFK Jr. was not spewing hatred. I think he accomplished exactly what he wanted to do: That is, get people talking about Autism and sharing some truths that haven’t been made public before. My Social Media streams have displayed more posts about autism since his comments were made public than they did in the recent Autism Awareness month!

And if you want to judge for yourself whether or not he was spewing hatred, here is the link to the press conference. If you use this link, you can watch it from the point at which it starts, about 42 minutes into the posted video.

The Link Between Autism and Toxins in the Womb and Home

One of the topics mentioned by RFK Jr. is that there are toxins in the environment that can lead to autistic behaviors. I couldn’t agree more.

Let’s start with the environment of the womb.  Most expectant moms that I know are understandably concerned about taking certain medications when they are pregnant.

There have been at least 2 class action lawsuits related to the outcomes of having introduced toxins to the baby in the womb.  One was regarding Zofran, often given to women who have unrelenting nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. The other was Tylenol/Acetaminophen for which mothers were assured was safe to use to manage pain during pregnancy. You might be interested to know that one of the side effects of Zofran is “Inability to speak.”  What do you suppose could happen to children whose mother was given that drug during pregnancy?  (I had one case like this with a child who was a diagnosis of non-verbal autism. In doing homeopathic detox, he began speaking THE NEXT DAY!)

Autism and Toxins: What the Research and Real World Experience Is Telling Us

We’ve all known for a long time that there are what are often termed “sick buildings.” Well, sometimes the sick building is the home that you and your children are living in.

Mold Removal in Progress. Notice the HazMat suit.

A possible connection between gut dysbiosis with Mold (Aspergillus species) and Autism was first suggested in 2000 in a study of 23 children treated with anti-fungal therapy. Another approach looked at conditions that are favorable for the growth of mold. In these studies, the severity of pre-natal exposure to tropical storms and hurricanes which can create these conditions was positively associated with autism prevalence.

In another study, Precipitation levels were positively correlated with rates of Autism in schools. A 2009 study showed that amongst children with Autism, increased exposure to mold

“increased the severity of neurophysiological abnormalities seen in autistic children by comparing six autistic children exposed to molds and mycotoxins in the home to eight autistic children with no mycotoxin exposure and 29 non-autistic children, and found that the mycotoxin-exposed autistic group had a 1.8-fold higher number of neurobehavioral abnormalities versus the non-mycotoxin autistic group, and a 12.2-fold higher number of neurobehavioral abnormalities than the non-autistic children.”

Conducting a homeopathic detox using remedies made from various forms of black mold, while too soon to know for certain, has been promising in my practice.

Why Autism and Toxins Should Be a Bigger Part of the Conversation

RFK Jr. has talked for many years about toxins in the environment being a causative agent for Autism.  It seems like as parents and as a society, we would want to know about that. But yet, some parents find doctors reticent to do mycotoxin tests to determine if there is such a problem existing.  So at Lotus Homeopathy, we just start without the test.

Many people claim that it is part of the genetic code.  But that is only part of the story.  The rest of the story, which gets left off, is that something needs to happen to turn on that code.  Just because you carry a particular gene, doesn’t mean it will get turned on. Toxins are well known for being one of the things that can turn on a gene. See my blog post on Homeopathy and Epigenetics here.

It also seems that society would be especially interested in learning the environmental causes of autism because there are a burgeoning number of kids who are now adults who cannot care for themselves.  What will happen to them when their parents die? Who will take care of them?  How will they be treated? Where will they live? What is the cost to society (financially and otherwise) of having this many unproductive adults?

What To Do If You Have A Child With Autism

Homeopathy is well known in the autism world as a modality that can help your child recover. I’ve been to many Autism conferences, and I often hear stories from either the recovered kids or their parents that homeopathy was part of the treatment plan.

Meet Kathryn Berg the Classical Homeopath at Lotus Homeopathy, Inc.

Some of you know me, others of you may have heard of me. And for most, you probably have no clue about me or my business. So I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself, my family, my business, why I am a homeopath and how I became a homeopath—not necessarily in that order.

Like many people, I found out about homeopathy accidentally. I fell down while walking my Akita pup on an icy sidewalk on a typical Minnesota winter day. I was scheduled to go to a friend’s house later that day, so when I did, I asked her for some ice. You need some Arnica, she told me. Arnica? What’s that? She explained that Arnica is a homeopathic remedy for trauma.

At the time, the only place to get homeopathic remedies was a book and herb store in South Minneapolis. So I went there to get some. When I got there, I decided I should read some books so I actually knew what I was doing. I left with the Arnica 30c and three books. By the time I got done reading them, I knew I wanted to be a homeopath.

It was only several years later that I realized that I was attracted to homeopathy as a profession because I am a problem solver. It is what drives me. There is nothing like a well chosen homeopathic remedy to solve problems.

At the time I decided to become a homeopath, there wasn’t even a school here in in Minnesota. But eventually, my homeopath and his business partner started the Northwestern Academy of Homeopathy. I was a graduate of the third class. At the time I went there, it was a part time program taking three and a half years! Since then I have studied with numerous other well known and respected homeopaths in continuing education studies.

While I do work with all sorts of folks with a variety of conditions, I really have studied how to treat people suffering from PTSD, health issues related to aging women, and children’s health issues of all sorts, including autism. I have also been successful in removing blockages to healing due to suppression of symptoms by western medicine. I chose those specialties because people really suffer who have those forms of dis-ease, and Western Medicine doesn’t seem to have much of a solution for them.

After over twenty years of practice, I still get excited for clients when a remedy has helped them heal.

So that is about my business. Now, a little bit about me.

I have two adult sons in their early twenties, so I have shed the title of “Soccer mom”. My husband and I are empty nesters living in Woodbury, MN. For fun, I like to play piano, sing, sew, garden, hike, and travel. I am in a community choir. I also enjoy cooking healthy meals and, out of necessity, am an expert at cooking for special diets.

If you have any questions about homeopathy or my approach to homeopathic case taking, please feel free to put some questions in the comments below.

If you have a health issue you need help with, please click the Book Now button on my Facebook page or Main page of my website and schedule a complementary consult to see if homeopathy can help you!

Thanks!
