How Does Homeopathy Work? (Even if we don’t fully know why…)

Have you ever found yourself wondering how things work?  For example, you might have wondered, how does homeopathy work?

I’ve always been curious about that kind of thing. When my kids were little, I used to buy books all about “how things work”—both for their bedtime curiosity and my own need to understand the world a little better.

One question I hear a lot in my practice is:

“How does homeopathy work, anyway?”

Let’s talk about that. Briefly. Honestly.

First, the Honest Answer

Here’s the truth:
We don’t fully know how homeopathy works.

However, we know that it works. We know how to make it work.
But the exact mechanism? That’s still unfolding.

And before you think, “Well, that sounds sketchy,” let me tell you this:

• If you look in the Physician’s Desk Reference (the giant manual conventional doctors use), you’ll find plenty of drugs listed with the same disclaimer:
  “We’re not sure how this works, but we believe it does X, Y, or Z.”

So don’t write off homeopathy just yet.

Time to Take Off the Chemistry Hat

To really understand how homeopathy works, you need to stop thinking like a chemist and start thinking like a physicist.

That’s because Homeopathy isn’t about chemistry—it’s about physics.

What current research suggests is that:

• Water has a kind of memory.

• That memory is activated when it’s shaken vigorously or rapped against a hard surface.

• This process is called succussion.

I actually have a neighbor who runs a lab at 3M and holds a PhD in physics—specifically in material sciences. She explained it beautifully. She told me:

“Anyone who knows physics knows that rapping a substance against a hard surface activates it.”

What is Potentization?

Homeopathic remedies go through a two-step process called potentization.

Here’s how it works:

1. Dilution: 🧪
   The original substance is diluted in water—often to a ratio of 1 part in 99.

2. Succussion:
   The diluted substance is vigorously shaken or rapped 40 to 100 times.

3. Repetition:
   One drop of that solution is added to 99 new parts of water, and the process is repeated.
   This creates what we call a C potency (C = 1-in-100).

4. Higher Potency = Deeper Action:

   • 30C = the process has been repeated 30 times

   • 200C = 200 times

   • 1M = 1,000 times

The more a remedy has been potentized, the more energetically deep it tends to work.

Why Matching Symptoms Matters

Now, here’s the key 🗝️:
A remedy only works when it matches the person’s symptoms.

That means:

• The remedy must match the mental, emotional, and physical symptoms a person is experiencing.  Diagnosis does not equal prescription.

• If it doesn’t match, nothing happens. No harm. No help.

• When it does match—magic (well, physics) happens.

This is why those so-called “experiments” where people swallow bottles of remedies in protest fall flat. They’re taking energy medicine that doesn’t match their symptoms, so of course nothing dramatic happens.

And truthfully?
They know that. They just want to discredit homeopathy.

So… How Does Homeopathy Work?

We believe this:

• It stimulates the body’s own healing response.

• A well-chosen homeopathic remedy reduces susceptibility to illness—both chronic and acute.

• The end result of the remedy helps bring the body back into balance, by gentle suggestion to the vital force.

So, it’s not like an antibiotic that kills bacteria.
Actually, it’s more like a nudge—encouraging your body to do what it was designed to do all along.
