Picking & Biting & Homeopathy

by | May 2, 2019 | CPTSD, Nail Biting, PTSD

Were you ever a nail picker or a nail biter when you were young? Picking your skin or nails can be helped with homeopathy.

Maybe your mom even got something to put on your nails so they would taste bad and you would stop biting or picking your nails. If that worked, putting the toxic stuff on your nails, so the idea of biting your nails would be unattractive to you, you probably went on to fidget with something else, like your earrings, or your shirt or twirling your hair or something like that.

PTSD has some side symptoms.  It isn’t just a mental and emotional disease.  There are some physical symptoms that express what is going on mentally and emotionally as well, and one of those is picking and biting.  It is a set of symptoms that usually arises out of some sort of anxiety.

This blog will show how homeopathy can help that.

Homeopathy Can Help With Picking and Biting

I looked in my homeopathic repertory and I looked up all the picking and biting symptoms.  The homeopathic Repertory shows 25 remedies that help with picking your nails.  Another 40 that help with biting your nails. Others include:

  • Picking your lips;
  • Picking your lips until they bleed;
  • Picking your clothes, etc.
  • Biting your toenails. (For Real…)

There are probably a dozen or more symptoms that can be utilized to help find a remedy that can help not only that, but help the underlying anxiety that is causing you to be doing this picking and biting.

All this talk of remedies and symptoms may not mean much to you, but what it means is that we have LOTS of possibilities to help you!

In homeopathy, we find that we can’t just go by mental and emotional symptoms.  If there are some physical ones, such as the picking and biting, it can actually help us narrow in on a remedy easier.

When I looked at the remedies that show up in the symptoms, there are definitely high anxiety remedies that show up, but there are also remedies, for example that have a high level of guilt.  People feel guilty about something that they have done or were unable to do.

With all those remedy options, Homeopathy is definitely a source of help for dealing with picking and biting nails whether you have PTSD or not.

Real Life Experience

My son came into this world being kind of an anxious little kids.  When we found a remedy for him that calmed his anxiety, and his perspiration and all the other symptoms that came with it, I noticed that his nails were growing out. I actually had to buy him a nail clipper and show him how to do it.

He had been peeling back his nails his whole life.  It definitely helped him.  He had to learn a new behavior.  But it was pretty easy for him because he had no reason to be biting or picking his nails anymore.

As you can see, you probably can’t choose a remedy for yourself.  There are too many to pick from.  (No pun intended.)

Meet Kathryn Berg the Classical Homeopath at Lotus Homeopathy, Inc.

Some of you know me, others of you may have heard of me. And for most, you probably have no clue about me or my business. So I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself, my family, my business, why I am a homeopath and how I became a homeopath—not necessarily in that order.

Like many people, I found out about homeopathy accidentally. I fell down while walking my Akita pup on an icy sidewalk on a typical Minnesota winter day. I was scheduled to go to a friend’s house later that day, so when I did, I asked her for some ice. You need some Arnica, she told me. Arnica? What’s that? She explained that Arnica is a homeopathic remedy for trauma.

At the time, the only place to get homeopathic remedies was a book and herb store in South Minneapolis. So I went there to get some. When I got there, I decided I should read some books so I actually knew what I was doing. I left with the Arnica 30c and three books. By the time I got done reading them, I knew I wanted to be a homeopath.

It was only several years later that I realized that I was attracted to homeopathy as a profession because I am a problem solver. It is what drives me. There is nothing like a well chosen homeopathic remedy to solve problems.

At the time I decided to become a homeopath, there wasn’t even a school here in in Minnesota. But eventually, my homeopath and his business partner started the Northwestern Academy of Homeopathy. I was a graduate of the third class. At the time I went there, it was a part time program taking three and a half years! Since then I have studied with numerous other well known and respected homeopaths in continuing education studies.

While I do work with all sorts of folks with a variety of conditions, I really have studied how to treat people suffering from PTSD, health issues related to aging women, and children’s health issues of all sorts, including autism. I have also been successful in removing blockages to healing due to suppression of symptoms by western medicine. I chose those specialties because people really suffer who have those forms of dis-ease, and Western Medicine doesn’t seem to have much of a solution for them.

After over twenty years of practice, I still get excited for clients when a remedy has helped them heal.

So that is about my business. Now, a little bit about me.

I have two adult sons in their early twenties, so I have shed the title of “Soccer mom”. My husband and I are empty nesters living in Woodbury, MN. For fun, I like to play piano, sing, sew, garden, hike, and travel. I am in a community choir. I also enjoy cooking healthy meals and, out of necessity, am an expert at cooking for special diets.
