Ketamine versus Homeopathy: Is Ketamine a Better Mouse Trap?

by | May 3, 2019 | CPTSD, Depression, PTSD

The world is always looking for a better mouse trap.  One of the elusive mouse traps is a pharmaceutical which can help relieve symptoms of uncurable anxiety and depression. This includes PTSD and CPTSD. Although not considered a pharmaceutical, Homeopathy is definitely a better mouse trap, and Homeopathy can help you safely recover from PTSD.

One of the new traps on the market is Ketamine Infusions.  Ketamine has been around for a while, but when administered through infusions, it is thought to be the answer to these difficult mental health disorders. It has shown enough promise the VA is considering its use for wartime vets with PTSD.

But hold on just a minute there Tom. Catching Jerry might not be as easy as you think.  Ketamine may not be the better mouse trap we have been led to believe it is.   How does Ketamine compare with Homeopathy, a tried and true form of healing which has been around for 200 years?

What is Ketamine?

Known as “Special K” in the party drug/rave world, Ketamine is also an anesthetic for animals.  For humans with intractable depression and anxiety, it is administered as an IV infusion (as an off label, unapproved use), so you can’t just take pills or a shot.

In additions to its touted benefits, there are some serious side effects that need to be considered.

Among the side effects of ketamine infusion is dissociation.  That is also a symptom of PTSD/CPTSD.  So taking the drug can cause it and cure it—albeit temporarily in this case. Thus, it has a homeopathic effect—although crudely so. It isn’t made safe through potentization like homeopathic remedies are.  If this doesn’t make sense to you, click here to read more.

Along with the potential benefits of a Ketamine infusion (not everyone responds positively) are long term side effects, including

  • dissociation during the infusion process (patients aren’t allowed to drive themselves home)
  • memory problems,
  • issues with thinking clearly,
  • numbness of feelings (it is an anesthetic, after all), and
  • mood swings.

Amongst abusers of “Special K”, these side effects can be expected:

  • serious bladder problems, called ulcerative cystitis, can develop over time;
  • vision anomalies, which make driving difficult;
  • the kidneys and the heart take a hit with Ketamine abuse; and
  • lung damage, with breathing difficulties developing over time.

One can assume this may also happen over time to those who get ongoing infusions, but the research isn’t in yet.  Yikes!  I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t volunteer for that study.

Homeopathy can help you safely recover from PTSD.

How Much Does It Cost?

If taking an animal drug or party drug isn’t concerning enough, one of the other drawbacks is that it isn’t usually covered by insurance, and the cost is a minimum of $300.00 per infusion ($500 per infusion at the clinic in my town).

Furthermore, clinical studies have shown the benefits of infusion may only last for a week or two. This can be cost prohibitive for most people who are suffering from intractable depression and anxiety and PTSD, who in many cases may not be able to hold a full-time job.

Which Is The Best Option?

On the one hand, we have Ketamine, which can temporarily relieve symptoms of PTSD, but also permanently damage your body over time, and permanently empty your pocket book.

But, on the other hand, we have Homeopathy—which uses remedies chosen just for you, which can permanently relieve symptoms of PTSD, has zero side effects, zero damage to your organs, and a year’s worth of treatments can be had for less than a month’s worth of treatment of Ketamine infusions.

Which is the better mouse trap?  The promising but risky invention? Or the tried and true, safe standard?

Meet Kathryn Berg the Classical Homeopath at Lotus Homeopathy, Inc.

Some of you know me, others of you may have heard of me. And for most, you probably have no clue about me or my business. So I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself, my family, my business, why I am a homeopath and how I became a homeopath—not necessarily in that order.

Like many people, I found out about homeopathy accidentally. I fell down while walking my Akita pup on an icy sidewalk on a typical Minnesota winter day. I was scheduled to go to a friend’s house later that day, so when I did, I asked her for some ice. You need some Arnica, she told me. Arnica? What’s that? She explained that Arnica is a homeopathic remedy for trauma.

At the time, the only place to get homeopathic remedies was a book and herb store in South Minneapolis. So I went there to get some. When I got there, I decided I should read some books so I actually knew what I was doing. I left with the Arnica 30c and three books. By the time I got done reading them, I knew I wanted to be a homeopath.

It was only several years later that I realized that I was attracted to homeopathy as a profession because I am a problem solver. It is what drives me. There is nothing like a well chosen homeopathic remedy to solve problems.

At the time I decided to become a homeopath, there wasn’t even a school here in in Minnesota. But eventually, my homeopath and his business partner started the Northwestern Academy of Homeopathy. I was a graduate of the third class. At the time I went there, it was a part time program taking three and a half years! Since then I have studied with numerous other well known and respected homeopaths in continuing education studies.

While I do work with all sorts of folks with a variety of conditions, I really have studied how to treat people suffering from PTSD, health issues related to aging women, and children’s health issues of all sorts, including autism. I have also been successful in removing blockages to healing due to suppression of symptoms by western medicine. I chose those specialties because people really suffer who have those forms of dis-ease, and Western Medicine doesn’t seem to have much of a solution for them.

After over twenty years of practice, I still get excited for clients when a remedy has helped them heal.

So that is about my business. Now, a little bit about me.

I have two adult sons in their early twenties, so I have shed the title of “Soccer mom”. My husband and I are empty nesters living in Woodbury, MN. For fun, I like to play piano, sing, sew, garden, hike, and travel. I am in a community choir. I also enjoy cooking healthy meals and, out of necessity, am an expert at cooking for special diets.
