Imagine learning that the pain reliever you trusted during pregnancy, and were told it was safe, could change your child’s brain development forever. Keep reading for more information on Tylenol and Autism Risk.
On September 22, 2025, the trump administration declared that Tylenol, (Generic name in the US is Acetaminophen, Paracetamol in other countries) causes Autism. They also announced a huge initiative to study the causes of autism, and no worry about politics and pharmaceutical companies. They stressed that studies that wouldn’t be dragged out over years and years and years. One scientist present mentioned that scientists often like to conduct slow studies.
Anyone who is complaining about this connection between Autism and Tylenol and announcement did not watch the press conference. I encourage you to do so.
Just in case you would like to watch it, here is a link to the press conference. I watched through about 35 minutes. There may have been more that was helpful.
What’s the Problem with Tylenol?
Tylenol is different from other OTC pain relievers such as Ibuprofen (Advil), Naproxen (Aleve) and aspirin. While NSAIDs are anti inflammatory drugs, and go straight to that part of the body, Tylenol goes straight to the brain. It basically releases anandamide, which is a “bliss molecule”, which affects the way your brain perceives the pain. It does this by activating CB1 (cannabinoid) receptors in the brain.
You may be wondering if this is Cannabis, or if it acts like Cannabis? Tylenol is more like a whisper, where as cannabis is more of a shout or yelling.
Summary of How Tylenol is a Risk
Tylenol’s link to the endocannabinoid system
- Tylenol (acetaminophen) doesn’t directly block pain like NSAIDs.
- Instead, it’s metabolized into a compound called AM404, which increases anandamide (the “bliss molecule”) in the brain.
- Anandamide regulates mood, social bonding, memory, and brain development.
Fetal brain development depends on balanced endocannabinoid signaling
- The endocannabinoid system (ECS) helps guide how brain cells grow, connect, and organize during pregnancy.
- Too much or too little ECS activity at critical stages can alter how brain circuits are “wired.”
- Anandamide is especially important for the frontal cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus — regions involved in attention, emotional regulation, and social communication.
Disruption During Pregnancy
- If a pregnant mother takes Tylenol repeatedly, the fetus is exposed to higher levels of AM404 and altered anandamide signaling.
- This can overstimulate or suppress certain pathways, leading to atypical development of neural circuits.
- Studies suggest these changes may increase risks for ADHD, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and behavioral regulation issues.
Why Tylenol and Autism specifically?
- Autism is linked to differences in how brain cells communicate, especially in areas that handle social behavior, emotional processing, and sensory integration.
- Disturbing endocannabinoid signaling during pregnancy could interfere with:
- Synapse pruning (removing unnecessary brain connections)
- Dopamine and serotonin regulation (key for attention and mood)
- Excitation/inhibition balance in the brain (often altered in autism)
✅ So the connection is: Tylenol → increases AM404 → alters fetal anandamide levels → disrupts ECS during brain wiring → raises risk of autism/ADHD.
Obviously, the frequency of dosing will make a difference. An occasional dose, might not be problematic. Taking it daily for a headache would be risky.
How Can Homeopathy Help Children with Autism?
As a homeopath, part of my practice includes Homeopathic Detox. This is using a potentized version of the substance(s) that is/are believed to be a causal factor in the client developing autism. In practical terms, this means, Tylenol/Acetaminophen can be turned into a homeopathic remedy. Administered according to the chosen methodology that has been developed by homeopaths, the impact of Tylenol during pregnancy can be minimized.
You may be asking, What Got Better?
Here is a list of some of the symptoms that I have seen improve in my young clients whose Autism can be tracked to Tylenol in utero, and who have been treated with the Tylenol remedy.
Behavior & Movement
- Reduction in Compulsive Motion. Movements are more goal oriented and purposeful.
- Destructiveness has been eliminated.
- Household energy is less frenetic and more peaceful.
Social & Emotional Development
- Increased affection
- Refers to mom as “mommy” for the first time.
- Fewer emotional outbursts and those that do occur are triggered by understandable situations.
- Far less self-injury
- Less withdrawn. Shows more interest in family interactions and Sibling Play.
Speech & Communication
- More vocal and longer, more expressive sentences
- Initiates conversation and answers more quickly
- Stammering still present but improving.
- Speaks at a more audible volume
- Demonstrates deeper thought and more consistent self-advocacy
Cognitive & Daily Functioning
- Improved reading skills—more words recognized and read correctly. (Mind, mistakes, reading)
- Begins to memorize songs and enjoys familiar phrases from movies.
- Initiates tasks independently (e.g., asks for a snack, helps with chores).
- Takes responsibility for his own remedy regimen.
Hygiene and Independence
- More cooperative with hygiene routines (e.g., requesting diaper changes).
- Interested in staying clean and dressing himself.
Appetite and Physical Health
- Less tendency to overeat
- No more nosebleeds from nose picking. (Nose, Picking nose) (Nose, picking nose, bleeds, until it)
- Overall physical self-injury greatly reduced.
Sleep
- Continues to sleep well; now sleeps an extra hour in the morning.
- Maintains regular bedtime and wake time.
Notable Milestones
- Increased patience and tolerance with younger children.
- Willingness to help tidy up when asked.
- Improved resilience in emotionally charged situations.
- Demonstrates greater social confidence and expressive communication
Overall, these children are showing steady, meaningful progress in social connection, communication, emotional regulation, and independence. The shift in household energies—from tension to calm—reflects the depth of healing underway.
What Options Does Homeopathy Offer to Reduce Tylenol and Autism Risk?
Are you pregnant? If so, do not take Tylenol. If you have pregnancy related Migraines, homeopathy is an excellent alternative. Working together with you, we can come up with a remedy that will not just manage the migraines, but will reverse your susceptibility to getting them.
Does Your Baby Have a Fever? If your baby has a fever, homeopathy has excellent alternatives. In the Homeopathic Repertory, there are at least 24 remedies known to help Infantile Fevers. I can help you find the right one through an Acute Care Call.
Do You Have A Pregnancy Fever? While the repertory does not specify fevers during pregnancy, there is an entire chapter on Fevers in the homeopathic Repertory. Again, an Acute Care Call is all it takes to resolve the fever. Tylenol isn’t necessary.
Is Your Baby Struggling With Teething? Here is a VERY common symptom for which Tylenol is often recommended. Again, there are SO MANY remedies for Dentition problems that it is not necessary to give Tylenol.
Concerned about vaccinations? Lotus Homeopathy offers a Homeoprophylaxis program which was studied over more than a decade and was found to be as effective or more effective than a traditional vaccination schedule in helping to prevent childhood illnesses.
Would like to learn more about Homeoprophylaxis? Click Here to read more, or Click Here to schedule a Discovery Call to ask questions about it.
If you vaccinate your child and he or she gets a fever as a result, do not give Tylenol. Once again, homeopathy has solutions.
If you would like to read more on this topic, check out my related blog which discusses the relationship between Tylenol, Vaccines and Glutathione. I wrote this at the request of some readers of this blog.

Some of you know me, others of you may have heard of me. And for most, you probably have no clue about me or my business. So I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself, my family, my business, why I am a homeopath and how I became a homeopath—not necessarily in that order.
