Yes, You Can Recover From PTSD and CPTSD

by | Jul 9, 2019 | CPTSD, PTSD, Recovery

It is really common to hear people talk about their illnesses, whether it is PTSD or something else.  It seems to be the topic du jour almost any place you go.  It often goes something like this:

  • I can’t do anything about it.
  • My doctor says there is no cure, so I just have to learn to live with it.
  • My C/PTSD is a Brain Injury, and it won’t heal. I have to do counseling the rest of my life.
  • The medications don’t really help much.
  • My meds cost me $600 a month. (Homeopathy is MUCH cheaper than that!)

I was having a conversation about homeopathy with someone a while back and he asked me if it bothered me that people could get so much better if they would just try something else.

The answer is yes, it does.  It not only bothers me, it breaks my heart.

And it angers me that someone would tell another they can never get better. That sounds like a job security comment rather than encouragement and truth.

It makes me want to shake people and say, “Listen!  It doesn’t have to be this way!”  (Shaking people is not a particularly effective method of getting through to people.)  I am a problem solver by nature, so this denial that you can actually get better just doesn’t sit well with me.

Would Your Doctor Really Know?

Sometimes people won’t recover because they won’t try anything different.  “If it worked, my doctor would know about it.”  Well, not really.  If they studied it, maybe.  Medical schools are funded by pharmaceutical companies, so no, they aren’t going to learn about homeopathy in medical schools.  And medical journals, well, they are also funded by pharmaceutical companies, so research on homeopathy and naturopathy gets published in other types of journals.  Journals that most MD’s don’t read.

I’d like to say to each of them, “The doctor isn’t the final word on whether something works or not.”  If doctors don’t read the journals in which homeopathy studies are often pubished, how would they know about the research?  They aren’t experts in homeopathy, therefore, their viewpoint is an uninformed opinion.

What About Family Illnesses?

It is pretty well established that trauma can pass on from generation to generation.  One could say that “It runs in the family.”

So if your mother and grandmother and two sisters have symptoms of experiencing trauma even though there really was no trauma, you might too.  But it doesn’t mean you have to either live with it or follow the western medicine treatment (or lack thereof) that they all did.

This is true of all family illnesses.

If all your nieces and nephews have ADHD, it doesn’t mean your children have to live with it.  They can be successful and actually recover from the dis-ease they are currently experiencing rather than just managing it.

What Role Does Stress Play?

Another way to think about diseases that “run in the family” is about how we learn to compensate for stressors in our lives. Homeopathy helps with stress and helps individuals deal with stress.  We learn how to compensate and deal with stress from our families.  While it may in the short term help with the acute stress, in the long term, stress can cause dis-ease to turn to disease.

If we respond as we learned, we may develop the same dis-ease, and therefore disease, that our family members do.  This is a learned response rather than a genetic response.  It could be a physical response like a hormonal issue, or a mental/emotional response, such as choosing to drink or use drugs when you are feeling hopeless.  Because several people in the family make the choice to take medication that helps only minimally or self-medicate, it seems normal.

Also, sometimes people from the same family tree simply need the same homeopathic remedy as others who swing from the same branch.  I frequently see this happen.  A variation on this is that members of the family need homeopathic remedies from the same plant family.

Healing with homeopathy can help prevent dis-ease that “runs in the family” or that the doctors don’t have a “cure” for–including PTSD and CPTSD. People might say I am giving false hope.  I disagree.  What about the audacity of hope!

Meet Kathryn Berg the Classical Homeopath at Lotus Homeopathy, Inc.

Some of you know me, others of you may have heard of me. And for most, you probably have no clue about me or my business. So I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself, my family, my business, why I am a homeopath and how I became a homeopath—not necessarily in that order.

Like many people, I found out about homeopathy accidentally. I fell down while walking my Akita pup on an icy sidewalk on a typical Minnesota winter day. I was scheduled to go to a friend’s house later that day, so when I did, I asked her for some ice. You need some Arnica, she told me. Arnica? What’s that? She explained that Arnica is a homeopathic remedy for trauma.

At the time, the only place to get homeopathic remedies was a book and herb store in South Minneapolis. So I went there to get some. When I got there, I decided I should read some books so I actually knew what I was doing. I left with the Arnica 30c and three books. By the time I got done reading them, I knew I wanted to be a homeopath.

It was only several years later that I realized that I was attracted to homeopathy as a profession because I am a problem solver. It is what drives me. There is nothing like a well chosen homeopathic remedy to solve problems.

At the time I decided to become a homeopath, there wasn’t even a school here in in Minnesota. But eventually, my homeopath and his business partner started the Northwestern Academy of Homeopathy. I was a graduate of the third class. At the time I went there, it was a part time program taking three and a half years! Since then I have studied with numerous other well known and respected homeopaths in continuing education studies.

While I do work with all sorts of folks with a variety of conditions, I really have studied how to treat people suffering from PTSD, health issues related to aging women, and children’s health issues of all sorts, including autism. I have also been successful in removing blockages to healing due to suppression of symptoms by western medicine. I chose those specialties because people really suffer who have those forms of dis-ease, and Western Medicine doesn’t seem to have much of a solution for them.

After over twenty years of practice, I still get excited for clients when a remedy has helped them heal.

So that is about my business. Now, a little bit about me.

I have two adult sons in their early twenties, so I have shed the title of “Soccer mom”. My husband and I are empty nesters living in Woodbury, MN. For fun, I like to play piano, sing, sew, garden, hike, and travel. I am in a community choir. I also enjoy cooking healthy meals and, out of necessity, am an expert at cooking for special diets.
